Title Keynote:

Title Keynote Announcement: Emily M. Dickens, SHRM Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary, will address civility at the 24th Annual Delaware SHRM Conference and Expo.

No one has led the discussion about how to guide today’s workforce to remain civil when discussing polarizing topics… until now. In her keynote, “Civility Starts at Work: Nurturing Civility in the Workplace to Inspire a More Civil World,” Emily dares to go there.

Emily M Dickens is Chief of Staff, Head of Government Affairs & Corporate Secretary for SHRM. An executive team member, Dickens is responsible for SHRM’s advocacy and policy initiatives. This includes its Advocacy Team — the “A-Team” —composed of nearly 30,000 HR professionals across the nation.

No stranger to the ups and downs of a divided workplace, Emily has seen firsthand that civility starts at work. Explore the impact of civility on work culture and provide an outline for equipping employees to have candid, civil dialogue while supporting the mental health of all employees. Civility can set the tone for a resilient workforce. Civil conversations today will lay the foundation for tomorrow’s workplace.

Walk away with a strategic roadmap for facing the storm of conflict, gain insight on just how to measure and quantify people and strategy, and put your audience on a path to inspiring a more civil world.

Michael O'Bryan, Founder and CEO of  Humanature, to share, "Designing for Resilience: How Environments, Culture, and Relationships Shape Success."

Resilience has long been mislabeled as an individual personality trait, but what if it's actually an outcome crafted by our environments and the processes within them? In this engaging keynote and group dialogue, Mike will explore how resilience emerges not just from within individuals but from the systems, cultures, and relationships that surround them. Humans are inherently social creatures; our biology and social nature are forever intertwined. Relationships form the bedrock of our humanity, and culture is the foundation upon which resilience is built. By understanding this, we can design workplace environments that not only support but actively cultivate resilience in both people and systems. Join Mike O'Bryan as he delves into strategies for creating cultures and practices that foster resilience. We'll discuss what we might need to do differently or where to invest more to achieve these outcomes. Leveraging insights from the science of human development, performance, and design theory, we'll chart a path toward a more resilient future for your organization. Discover how to transform your HR practices to empower your workforce, and leave with actionable ideas to shape a resilient and thriving workplace.
